As it turns out, a more controlled and tactical Justin Gaethje wasn’t any less exciting. In the second half of a combat sports double-header, ‘The Highlight’ walked away the second-ever BMF champ and called for another crack at the true 155-pound title.
Gaethje ended Dustin Poirier’s night with a set-up punch/head kick combo at the one-minute mark of the second stanza. The two will surely have a trilogy bout in the future with the respectful rivalry now even.
“Unlike any other sport on Earth, you rarely get a chance at redemption,” Gaethje said following his win. “We take a loss, we just have to go home and sit with it and it eats us away and we usually never get that chance.” Gaethje continued.
“So to come back, to prove myself and I believed in myself the whole time I told Dustin he’s my favorite fighter on Earth. Luck and chance are a factor in this cage and I just thank god I came out on the right side this time.”

“If you watch that [first] fight compared to this fight, it’s night and day. It was a tough lesson to learn but that man taught me that lesson and I think god for him.”
It’s now being speculated Gaethje faces the winner of Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira. That fight is slated for October’s UFC 294 pay-per-view event.
“You know what I want to do next,” Gaethje said in his immediate post-fight interview. “I want to fight for the world championship. These guys are fighting in October. I’m going to prove I’m the best in the world.”

Megastar Conor McGregor was among the many to share thoughts about the performance on Twitter, posting:
“Justin, I’ll slap you around…I’m the real bmf, he can fight for pennies if he wants but I want spirits, I call the shots, I’m in it to launch shots, fuck chandler, you want it call for it.”
As noted by the UFC broadcast team, the night featured just two fights that went to the judges.
