With a win over Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. (49-0) in their boxing superfight set for August 26, the UFC’s “Notorious” Conor McGregor (21-3 in MMA, 0-0 in boxing) is set to “quadruple his net worth.” This had many previously wonder if he would even return to MMA at all following the fight after receiving a suspected $100 million payday.  McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh has said that the plan after Mayweather is to return to the UFC and for “Mystic Mac” to make his first UFC lightweight (155-pound) title defense in December. UFC President Dana White has said similar things as well. However, the native of Crumlin, Dublin, Ireland apparently wants to keep tackling both worlds beyond this fight.

The superfight takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The venue is also the official home of the UFC thanks to a tenant agreement and the company will hold its final event of the year, UFC 219, there on December 30.

“Boxing has been dear to my heart my whole, entire life, McGregor told various media outlets at a Friday (August 11) scrum. “I will contend in boxing bouts going forward, and I will contend in mixed martial arts bouts going forward. I will rule both with an iron fist, and that’s where my mindset is.”

The Betting Odds

The bout with Mayweather Jr. is set to take place in boxing’s neighboring weight class of 154 pounds. McGregor is currently the +375 underdog while the former “Pretty Boy” is Bovada’s -550 favorite as of Friday.

These odds are closer than a number of Mayweather Jr.’s previous bouts and McGregor’s camp is predicting a victory by knockout in four rounds in the weight division’s standard ten-ounce gloves or a KO win in just one round if the overseeing Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) grants a move to eight-ounce gloves.

“I will have fun,” McGregor said of his future. “I like it over this side. It’s good. The buildup is good, the preparation is good, I love the sport of boxing, I love the sport of mixed martial arts. I just love fighting. So wherever there’s a fight, you’ll see me.”

The change is one both fighters want and the NSAC will rule on the matter on August 16.

The Irishman made history the last time the world saw him in an octagon by becoming the first man to ever hold two UFC titles simultaneously (featherweight and lightweight, 145 and 155 pounds respectively.)  He knocked out then lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez in two rounds at Madison Square Garden at UFC 205 before being stripped at 145 due to inactivity.

The megastar also knocked out Brazil’s Jose Aldo, who had gone undefeated for a stretch of ten years, before his move to lightweight and title stripping.

McGregor is Mayweather Jr.’s sole reason for coming out of a two-year retirement. This followed defeating Andre Berto (now 31-5) by unanimous decision in what was considered a lackluster September, 2015 contest. Prior to this second retirement, “Money” had won titles ranging from super featherweight to light/junior middleweight (130-154 pounds.)

The Mayweather-McGregor Undercard

The undercard for this event was announced back on August 10 and will feature two title fights.

WBA light heavyweight (175-pound) champion Nathan Cleverly (30-1-3, 16 KOs) will face Badou Jack (21-1-2, 12 KOs). Unbeaten IBF junior lightweight (130-pound) king Gervonta Davis (18-0, 17 KOs) Francisco Fonseca (19-0-1, 13 KOs).

Additionally, Andrew Tabiti (14-0, 12 KOs) and Steve Cunningham (29-8-1, 13 KOs) will go ten rounds at cruiserweight (200 pounds.)
